Philosophy of Education

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he shall not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Grace Christian Academy provides a traditional philosophy and approach to instruction which is God-centered, teacher directed, and strong in the fundamentals of reading, writing and arithmetic. We use a time tested, research based curriculum written by master teachers with a goal of excellence and mastery of material. Its scope and sequence are carefully designed to review, practice, and build upon the foundation laid in the previous year.  We believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God, and its truths are carefully woven into every aspect of the curriculum and learning process.

GCA is a private school, an auxiliary of Grace Baptist Church, and functions under its 501c3 non-profit status. It is governed by an appointed school board made up of members of like faith and practice.

The A Beka Curriculum Reading Philosophy

The goal for a positive learning experience is to be able to read well. We believe in an “intensive, explicit” approach to teaching phonics which breaks down the process of learning to read to the smallest component and builds upon it. The A Beka curriculum was designed to teach this method. It equips children of all ability levels to successfully begin to read at the end of their preschool year. The intensive phonics approach is taught systematically throughout the lower elementary curriculum through six graduated steps. It is reinforced daily with seat work, workbooks, penmanship sheets, and other classroom support materials. All materials in the lower elementary curriculum are correlated to build upon the phonics foundation. Children experience great success and confidence through this method.
